About Jon Kaji

Jon is a small business owner, husband, father, and dedicated advocate for North Torrance. A native of the South Bay, Jon is an active member of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce and the South Bay Association of Realtors.

On the City Council, Jon works to protect the character of our neighborhoods, prioritize public safety, promote transparency and accountability at City Hall, and deliver a balanced, fiscally responsible budget. Jon is proud to call Torrance home, where he and his family have deep roots in the community.

As a young boy, Jon enjoyed playing Little League at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute. His father, Bruce Kaji, was a founder of Merit Savings Bank, which provided thousands of home loans and was a major employer in the Japanese American community.

Jon is currently a representative on the South Bay Cities Council of Governments and a member of the METRO South Bay Advisory Council, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California, and the International Visitors Council of Los Angeles. He is also the former governor of the Japanese American National Museum and the former president of the USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association.


Jon Kaji is Delivering for North Torrance

PROTECTING TORRANCE: Councilman Kaji has stood with residents to protect Torrance’s neighborhoods and quality of life. He opposed the ill-conceived Project Homekey proposal and continues advocating for planning that puts the community first. Jon also works to give Torrance a strong voice in major transportation projects, including the Metro extension.

PUBLIC SAFETY: Councilman Kaji will continue to ensure Torrance’s Police and Fire departments have the resources and tools they need to keep us safe. He has supported investing in programs that help recruit and retain officers,ensuring Torrance remains one of the safest places to live.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: As Chair of the Finance and Government Operations Committee, Councilman Kaji has helped lead a turnaround of Torrance’s finances by bringing the city budget back into the black, strengthening reserves, and keeping essential services funded.

ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY: Councilman Kaji is committed to promoting good governance, ensuring community voices are heard and taxpayers accountability for how their dollars are spent. He will continue to hold community meetings and keep City Hall accessible and responsive.
